My name is Elsa Yehdego I am nineteen years old. Currently, I am a first-generation student at University of Northern Colorado going in to my second year, I was born and raised in Axum, Ethiopia.
I came from a big family where I am the last child of seven other siblings. In 2010, I moved to the United States with my three brothers when I was 13 years old.
My father passed away when I was three years old although that was very though on my family and I when we moved to the us my family at the time had very limited means, my mother didn’t have a job since she didn’t speak in English, my brothers and I had to rely on the help of my older sister who moved to the U.S before my brother and I but also with the help of the government.
I came to the US not knowing how to speak or write English, but over time I have learned the new culture, environment and language.
While in the U.S. I’ve accomplished some phenomenal things. In high school, during my junior year, I started a project called “Ethiopia 100” to collect school supplies for middle school level students back home in Axum at my former school.
Now, in college, I am fortunate to have a full scholarship and am going to be entering my second year at University of Northern Colorado. In addition to my pursuits, I am also very passionate and dedicated to modeling. My ultimate goal as Miss Ethiopia USA would be to show other women that we are bold and beautiful just the way we are, I would be honored to be in a position to empower women, in addition to supporting students who are back home with their academics and other needs. I want to be there for them in any way I can and be a role model they can look up to now and in the future.
I want to thank my family and friends and people who have supported me to be in the place that I am today also I want to thank you for your time and considering me as the Miss Ethiopia USA.
